Crucible playlist contest results
Here are the final results for The Crucible playlist contest…
“Season of the Witch” by Donovan–obvious choice for Tennessee Rep’s season with a witch.
“Dancing in the Moonlight” by King Harvest–a nod to Abagail, Susanna, Mercy, Betty, and the other forest dancers.
“(You’re The) Devil in Disguise” by Elvis Presley–Oh, Abagail-you naughty minx.
“Black Magic Woman” by Fleetwood Mac–ditto
“Don’t Stand so Close to Me” by The Police–John Proctor’s text message to Abagail Williams.
“A Man” by Alanis Morissette–the definitive John Proctor song.
“Suspicious Minds” by Elvis Presley–the first of two Elizabeth Proctor songs.
“Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette–and guess what the 2nd Elizabeth Proctor song is.
“Witchy Woman” by the Eagles–Oh, Abagail, Part III.
“Devils & Dust” by Bruce Springsteen–the best Crucible-themed song: ‘Fears a dangerous thing; It can turn your heart black you can trust; It’ll take your God-filled soul; Fill it with Devils & Dust.’ ‘Nuff said.
“Superstition” by Stevie Wonder–needed at least one song for the open-minded community of Salem.
And yes, I realize that is 11 songs and not 10. I just couldn’t bring myself to cut any of them when I got down to this point. Also, an Honorable Mention for “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morisette, which is the perfect obsessive-love Abagail song, but I had to cut it for that little bit of language (we have kiddos who come to the LookIns).
Thank you to those who offered suggestions (both in comment-form and by email). A special “well done” to Matt who offered a ton of great suggestions–I could have made the playlist just from his list, but where’s the fun in that?
As for the LookIn, it went very well. The people who came were treated to a piece of a John, Elizabeth, Mary Warren scene and another portion from the courtroom scene (actually the scene’s from the vestry directly off of the courtroom). Between the scenes, costume designer Trish Clark and set designer Gary Hoff discussed their work on the play, and everyone enjoyed food and drink and the above tunes.
